Come In

Devotional:

Extending invitations to guests for a house-warming, can be an extremely exciting time. Your home is new, and everything about it brings you great peace. When guests arrive, you begin the tour. Showing off every closet and crevice to invite them to share in your joy. But once the joyful laughter of the house-warming fades and months begin to pass by, things change.

The excitement has faded and now anxiety and loneliness creeps around comfortably. Spider-webs make themselves at home in the confines of the spaces you choose to ignore. And, the very rooms of your home, you once openly invited to guests, become closed off. What has caused such a shift?

Truth is, once you settle into a place old habits return. The very things that were once held at bay, begin to invade your space. And it becomes easier to hide your sins in various rooms of your home, because the house-warming is over. There’s nothing more for you to display. You figure it’s your home, it’s just the way it’s supposed to be.

But, what happens when the home gets more cluttered? When what seemed to be under control becomes too much for you? Where you can’t even open a closet door without sins and shame falling out? Some give up, and leave things as they are. But as for you, you have a better choice.

I know it’s been a while since you’ve let anyone into your home. But today, let me encourage you to ask Jesus to, “come in…”

What rooms/closets of your “home” have restricted access? Was it always this way? Did something shift, to cause what was once open to now be restricted? What keeps you from allowing Jesus to come visit those spaces? What will cause you to remove the yellow tape and let Him “come in”?
